Responsibilities: + Perform breast examinations and document scars, moles, and pertinent findings. + Perform and analyze bone density measurements utilizing bone densitometer and prepare test results for physician interpretation. + Perform mammography procedures and breast ultrasounds per direction of the radiologist, documenting findings for the purpose of making a diagnosis. + Prepare patients for mammography, ultrasound, or bone densitometry procedures and tend to the physical safety and comfort of the patient. + Instruct patients and explain procedures to allay their anxiety and solicit cooperation, and also discuss the importance of a yearly clinical breast examination performed by a qualified health care provider. + Serve as a resource for new hires and students, demonstrating a willingness to educate others while also demonstrating a willingness to learn new skills. + Work as a team member and provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating with physicians, co-workers, managers, and patients. + Maintain flexibility to work within different clinical areas to support the needs of the department to ensure adequate staffing and maintain assigned workflow patterns at site based on patient volumes. + If required by this department, must demonstrate proper technique in venipuncture and power injectors. + May be required to administer PO and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast. + Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a registered Mammography Technologist with additional competencies in specialized Imaging procedures. + Advanced skills and competency required to fulfill duties and responsibilities of invasive breast imaging procedures, breast sonography, and/or bone densitometry. + Must maintain 2 imaging registries/certifications and maintain competency in both, as required by the hiring department. + Must be willing and demonstrate flexibility to be assigned to any of the maintained registries by leadership. + Must provide flexibility to work at least one off-shift (evening, nights, or weekend) every 90 days, as requested by Imaging leadership. + Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients in sensitive situations explaining procedures, providing instruction, and providing comfort and support. + Analytical ability necessary to operate complex equipment, optimize image quality, and minimize patient exposure to ionizing radiation. + Comprehensive knowledge of sterile technique and operation of complex equipment. + Maintain active 15 mammography credits every 3 years as defined by the Mammography Quality Standard Act. + Must have obtained a performance review rating of Good Performer on most recent performance review to be eligible for promotion. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: + ARRT Certificate + ARRT registry in Breast Sonography and/or Bone Densitometry required. + Bone Densitometry certification can be via American Registry Radiologic Technologists or International Society for Clinical Densitometry. + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
