Cleveland-Cliffs Cleveland Works will have openings at its Cleveland, Ohio, facility for Railroad Maintenance Technician Electrical – Signal Maintainer positions.

Summary of Responsibilities

Make repairs as required in connection with their (electrical) serviceOperate equipment in conjunction with repairs and assist in operational functions as necessary to keep equipment runningMay work alone, with minimal supervision, and work with other Maintenance Technicians; coordinate and work in conjunction with Operating and/or Service Technicians in the performance of maintenance tasks.A valid driver's license is required to operate mobile equipment.Install and maintain electrical signal systems throughout the millMaintain the electrical systems of the lift bridge

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school.3 years in electrical maintenance or an industrial/manufacturing environment, or equivalent; or military experience; or an associate degree from a partner college’s Steelworker for the Future® approved program; or an associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.3 years’ experience in or have completed coursework in troubleshooting/repairing electrical systems, print reading, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding/burning, pipefitting, rigging, and crane repair, among others.18 years of age, willing to work at heights, work in extreme heat and cold, must be willing to work a rotating shift that shall include weekends and holidays, as well as climb/walk on uneven surfaces, and work around railroad tracks and hazards.2 years prior signal maintaining/installing experience with certification in a Railroad environment.Excellent communication skills, be highly motivated, and be willing to work in a self-directed team environment with minimal supervision and direction.Excellent work attendance record, willing to report to work as scheduled, flexible to work overtime as needed or directed.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree or a certified training or apprenticeship program.Experience in a union railroad environment.Maintenance Technician candidates may need to successfully qualify on a computerized maintenance (electrical) test to be considered for this position. Upon hire, Maintenance Technician candidates will enter a craft training program consisting of classroom and on-the-job training and must successfully qualify on job-related factor tests.

Union Membership

Cleveland-Cliffs has a contract with the United Steelworkers that requires each employee hired into this position to join the Union.  Pursuant to the applicable Cleveland-Cliffs Steel LLC and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy Allied Industrial and Service Workers Internal Union Labor Agreement, all Employees hired onto the Railroad require at least twenty-four (24) months of Plant Service before being eligible to transfer from the Railroads.
