Maintenance Technician

Pay Range
$22.00 – $29.00 per hour, based on experience
General Purpose
Support manufacturing operations by ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant machinery and equipment. Perform preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, conveyor, and pneumatic systems while supporting safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and repair or replace defective components
• Install, adjust, and calibrate new or existing equipment to ensure proper operation
• Interpret mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics and blueprints
• Conduct testing and inspections to verify system efficiency and reliability
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment changes
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve equipment or process issues
• Support equipment upgrades, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Train production employees on proper equipment use and basic troubleshooting
• Build custom parts as needed and safely operate forklifts and scissor lifts
• Monitor and manage inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Respond to on-call maintenance needs and perform other duties as assigned
Safe Work Requirements
• Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, hard hats, and task-specific PPE
• Comply with all Smurfit WestRock safety policies, procedures, and employment guidelines
• Submit safety concerns, safety work orders, and incident reports as required
• Follow site leadership direction related to safety programs and task assignments
• Complete all assigned training within the Learning and Development system
• Understand and follow the STOP Work Process to ensure safety standards are met at all times
Qualifications
• Trade school or secondary education in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field, or five years of relevant experience in lieu of formal education
• Minimum of three years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience
• Working knowledge of AC/DC motors
• Ability to use measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, and micrometers
• Training in basic electrical and mechanical safety practices
• Experience using CMMS systems and basic Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of safe use of hand tools and small power tools
• Ability to pass color vision and color hue testing
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work on-call and overtime as needed
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
