Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Ravenna, Nebraska is known for the special town that caters to families, giving everything they need to grow. Our location produces powdered meat and poultry for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for utilizing all safety standards and procedures. Demonstrates, creates and maintains a safe work environment. Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structure, pipe & electrical systems in commercial industrial establishments by performing the following functions. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Maintain plant facilities and equipment to minimize downtime for production as well as keeping equipment operating safely •Troubleshoot & repair plant equipment, which may include electrical as well as mechanical troubleshooting as needed; follow and perform preventative maintenance schedules on all plant equipment •Check equipment daily for unusual noise or vibration which would indicate a possible problem •Maintain and monitor refrigeration equipment, and cooler and freezer temperatures •Maintain and monitor boiler operation systems, levels, and pressures. Check boiler water chemistry, make adjustments, and treat accordingly •Monitor and treat sewer system. •Ensure spare parts, motors, belts, drives, chains are on hand to repair all critical equipment •Replace worn equipment parts and make other equipment repairs as needed •Monitor plant building for cracks, crevices, openings or damage and repair as needed. •Order equipment and maintenance supplies as needed •Clean and organize shops and equipment storage areas •Maintain appropriate maintenance logs •Assist shipping/receiving, sanitation and production personnel as needed •Be on 24-hour call when scheduled •Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and avoid all accidents; actively determine ways to improve safety. •Follows all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner. •Reports all Food Safety & Quality issues to a Supervisor, QA Manager, or at Senior Manager. •Minimize product loss. •Maintain and operate all equipment in a safe manner to avoid injury to self or others. •Keep work area neat, clean, and sanitary. •Report all work-related injuries or unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately. •Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) Use lockout/tagout procedures when required. •Maintain good personal hygiene. •Follow instructions from supervisor and cooperate with coworkers and other departments be willing to fill in where needed. •Maintain a positive attitude. •Assume personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and incorporate safety & health in all jobs and tasks •Adhere to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality •Ensure regulatory compliance at all times •Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: Work Experience: Up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Computer Skills: Some computer skills with Microsoft Office and Google. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Adaptable to constant changes in the workplace. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, actively listen, type and work on a computer all as daily tasks. Employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. The employee is required to lift 10-50 lbs. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment may be loud and require hearing protection. Special care must be taken when working with or around microbes and chemicals. Safety material are provided, and Personal Protective Equipment should be worn where applicable (lab and production floor). Must be able to work in 80 to 100-degree temperatures. Other Skills and Abilities: Must have good people skills with an ability to listen, understand, collaborate, communicate, and assure complete information. Teamwork is essential.
