Position Summary:

At Smurfit WestRock, the Wastewater Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of our wastewater treatment systems to meet environmental compliance and support sustainable manufacturing. This role is critical for maintaining regulatory standards and protecting our community and environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and monitor wastewater treatment systems, pumps, and related equipment in accordance with Smurfit WestRock environmental policies.Collect and analyze water samples to ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local regulations.Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on treatment equipment to minimize downtime.Maintain accurate logs of operational data, test results, and maintenance activities using company systems.Respond promptly to alarms and system malfunctions, coordinating with maintenance teams as needed.Handle and dose treatment chemicals safely, following Smurfit WestRock safety protocols.Support continuous improvement initiatives for system efficiency and sustainability goals.Participate in environmental audits and assist with reporting requirements.Maintenance Support such as monitoring lubrication and preventive maintenance assistance.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification in wastewater treatment preferred.Knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment processes and environmental compliance standards.Ability to safely perform Maintenance tasks as assigned.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and regulatory guidelines.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor/industrial environments.

Preferred Experience:

Previous experience in wastewater treatment within a manufacturing or paper/packaging industry.Familiarity with Smurfit WestRock environmental and safety standards.
