Maintenance Lead – Grain Elevator
Location: Hutchinson, KS
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Pay: $20.00 – $50.00/hour (based on experience)
Shift: 4-day, 10-hour schedule, Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
(Schedule may shift during holiday weeks. For example, if a holiday falls on a Monday, the schedule will adjust to Tuesday through Friday. If a holiday falls midweek, such as on a Wednesday, the schedule may shift to Monday–Tuesday, off Wednesday, then resume Thursday–Friday.)
Position Summary:
ADM is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Maintenance Lead to support our grain elevator operations in Hutchinson, KS. This full-time, hourly position plays a key leadership role on the plant floor, directly overseeing maintenance technicians, coordinating daily work execution, and serving as the first line of response for equipment and facility needs. This is a working leadership role, blending technical expertise with people management, and requiring strong decision-making, effective communication, and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities:Execute daily maintenance plans and lead the maintenance team in completing preventive, corrective, and emergency work orders.Act as the first point of contact for mechanical issues, ensuring timely troubleshooting and escalating major concerns to plant leadership.Provide clear direction to hourly trades staff, adjusting assignments based on skills, workload, and shifting production priorities.Step in alongside the team to assist with hands-on repairs, especially during equipment failures, high-demand periods (e.g., harvest), or complex tasks.Oversee maintenance of grain-specific systems, including bucket elevators, grain legs, conveyors, dryers, spouting, pit conveyors, and aeration fans.Lead and document daily safety toolbox talks, and ensure that all tasks meet ADM safety standards and regulatory compliance (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, etc.).Coordinate effective shift handoffs, ensuring accurate communication of open work orders, equipment status, and team needs across crews.Monitor team performance and work quality, ensuring alignment with maintenance KPIs (e.g., downtime response, completion rates, inspection follow-through).Collaborate with operations, plant management, and other departments to coordinate shutdowns, project work, and operational planning.Participate in planning and execution of capital improvements, large repairs, utility upgrades, and long-term reliability projects.Ensure proper documentation of all maintenance activity using CMMS and other tracking systems.Work with Plant Superintendent and Plant Manager to ensure transparency, planning alignment, and accurate communication of maintenance priorities.Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of hourly trades team.Perform duties in areas where exposure to grease, grain dust, and other industrial residues is common and expected.Tools and Equipment You May Use:MIG, Stick, and TIG weldersOxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, grindersMultimeters and diagnostic toolsForklifts, scissor lifts, chain hoistsMaintenance management systems (CMMS)Hand and power tools, rigging, lifting, and alignment equipment Qualifications & Skills:
