Maintenance Apprentice

Person specification:

An interest in maintenance engineering as a subject and the desire to learn and develop

An interest in learning practical/tool usage skills

Ideally you will be a problem solver and have possess the interest to detect and identify faults in systems and machinery

Able to adapt with a proactive approach to ways of working

Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include:

Hobbies or voluntary work

Previous work experience

Engineering related school subjects

Able to demonstrate a commitment to personal learning – this could include a hobby, project, or additional qualification

Willingness to work as part of a team

Requirements:

To be eligible for the apprenticeship programme the following must apply:

You have the right to work in the UK

You must not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2025 or later

How does the apprenticeship work?

Provider: South Devon College

Qualification: Level 3

Duration: Approx. 42 months

Start date: The next start date will be September 2025; however, the successful candidate could join Howmet prior to September to begin to build a meaningful portfolio of evidenced learning

The successful apprentice may have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship or a degree pathway depending on the role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Maintenance Engineer Apprentices to join our Casting Maintenance team at our plant in Exeter. The apprenticeship will involve training in both electrical and mechanical maintenance. There may also be the opportunity for supplementary welding and fabrication training.

 

Apprentice Duties & Responsibilities:

To learn and perform scheduled and preventative maintenance of plant services and equipment to detect and prevent problemsAssist with the installation, repair, adjustment and testing of equipment and components to ensure that systems function properlyFollow work processes and safety standards closely to ensure a safe working environmentTo be committed in working towards achieving the competencies set out in the apprenticeship standardsMaintain an apprenticeship training record to be produced when required
