A private educational facility in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Skilled Maintenance Technician to join its team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Job Summary:
The Skilled Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across the school campus. The ideal candidate will be a jack-of-all-trades with a strong background in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry. This position requires a proactive, self-starting individual who can multitask effectively and takes pride in ensuring the school's facilities are in excellent condition.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on school buildings, equipment, and grounds.
Plumbing: Address plumbing issues, including repairing leaks, clearing drains, and installing/repairing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and water heaters.
HVAC: Conduct basic maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, such as filter changes, thermostat adjustments, and preventative checks. Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs.
Electrical: Handle minor electrical repairs, including replacing outlets, switches, ballasts, and light fixtures. Ensure all work is performed safely and up to code.
Carpentry: Perform general carpentry work, such as repairing doors, windows, drywall, furniture, and shelving.
General Maintenance: Assist with painting, groundskeeping, event setup/teardown, and other maintenance tasks as assigned.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and administration.
Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical certification is a plus.
Proven experience in facilities maintenance with strong, hands-on skills in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry.
Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check.
Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently in a dynamic environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks.
