SSC works in partnership with key public-sector and private-sector stakeholders to implement enterprise-wide approaches for managing IT infrastructure services and employ effective and efficient business management processes. Maintaining strong customer relationships and service management is essential to the successful delivery of SSC’s mandate. Shared Services Canada (SSC) has a requirement for Systems Administrator - Mainframe Storage to work with the Mainframe Data Management, Integration & Connectivity Services Support group for the Mainframe Operation Division of Shared Services Canada. History of group: Mainframe Operations Management has a commitment to partners and clients to meet and maintain day-to-day operations and Service Level Agreements. There is currently a shortage of in-house resources with the required skill sets. The team is responsible for the operation of the IBM mainframe environment for a variety of partners. This particular team that the resource works in would be to manage mainframe storage, from the mainframe. The person would be responsible for carving of the disk, setting HSM classes to govern migration of datasets within the different tiers of mainframe storage. They would complete upgrade of software that resides on the mainframe that control mainframe storage. The majority of systems hosted on mainframe are considered critical business applications for the government of Canada. There are systems that control the borders, air travel or commercial goods that travel in and out of Canada (CBSA), systems that support defence controls and the movement of military assets throughout the globe (DND), systems that support processing of tax returns and anything that has to do with taxation (CRA). This initiative is also tied to WLM - SSC has multiple closures of data centers on the books and the resource would also be responsible for supporting those. In addition, a migration to newly purchased storage product is underway - due to unsupported hardware and production systems, a cutover is urgently required to ensure continued vendor support.
