Mainframe Modernization Architect
Position Description:

The Mainframe Modernization Architect is a strategic technology leader responsible for defining and driving end‑to‑end modernization of legacy mainframe applications, platforms, and data ecosystems.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

- Lead end‑to‑end modernization of mainframe applications and data (COBOL, PL/I, CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, JCL) into cloud, hybrid, distributed, or re‑platformed architectures.
- Define modernization strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor, rewrite, replace, encapsulate) aligned to business goals and risk appetite.
- Develop phased migration roadmaps, dependency mapping, and cutover models (strangler fig, blue/green, parallel run).
- Design target-state architectures for applications, data, integration, and observability across mainframe + cloud.
- To create and present solution, Lead proposal to completion
- Establish domain decomposition, API and event-driven strategies, data replication, and resiliency patterns.
- Set engineering standards for microservices, APIs, data platforms, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Leverage AI to accelerate code understanding, automated refactoring, test generation, defect triage, and modernization scenario modeling (cost/timeline/risk).

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

- Deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, and legacy application ecosystems.
- Strong background in cloud/hybrid architecture (Azure/AWS/GCP) and distributed systems.
- Proven experience in modernization approaches: rehost, replatform, refactor, rewrite.
- Skilled in microservices, APIs, event-driven design, CI/CD, IaC, and container platforms.
- Hands-on with data migration, replication, and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted code analysis, refactoring, and test generation tools.
- Strong architecture road‑mapping, domain decomposition, and cutover strategy skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership across business, engineering, and operations.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $120,000–$170,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
