Mailroom Coordinator

The University of Virginia Library is seeking a Mailroom Coordinator for the Shannon Library mailroom. As part of the Access Services department, the Mailroom Coordinator oversees the daily operations of mail services, coordinating with carriers and communicating with library staff to ensure efficient delivery and shipping of mail and packages. This position works closely with Interlibrary Services (ILS), processing incoming and outgoing materials and collaborating with the ILS Supervisor to continually improve mailroom workflows.

Responsibilities 

Receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming mail and packages for library staffAccurately logging incoming packages, shelving in storage room, and notifying recipientsPackaging and processing outgoing mail and packages for library staffOperate mailroom equipment (e.g., stapler, scales, printers, cardboard baler) safely and effectivelyMaintain organization of mailroom space and suppliesCoordinate with library departments (e.g., finance, facilities maintenance) regarding billing, building closures, etcWork with supervisor to analyze workflows, identify issues, and recommend solutions

Minimum Qualifications  

Education: High School Diploma
Experience: At least one year of customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications 

Two years of prior experience in mail services, shipping/receiving, or customer serviceBasic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and mail shipping/tracking systemsStrong organization, communication, and customer service skillsDependable, punctual, and able to work independently

Physical Demands  
This job may require the ability to lift over 50 pounds and the use of a hand truck or book cart to push or pull up to 150 pounds. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.  

Anticipated hiring range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour,  commensurate with education and experience. 

Anticipated Start Date is early January 2026.
