Candidates for the position below will be assigned a position level based on their current skills at the time of hire.

 

Welcome to the role of Machinist - Fabrication & Machining. In this role, you will efficiently and accurately utilize various machining techniques to repair and build products as specified by blueprints, work orders, and oral instructions.  Duties include the use and maintenance of related shop equipment for machining. This is considered a skilled position that requires knowledge of various machining equipment, components, and techniques.

 

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of industrial machining, must be proficient with the products and services offered by the company, and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.

 

The equipment and skills are divided into four different categories: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, and Group 4.

Group 1 Equipment: Manual Lathe - Vertical, Manual Lathe – Horizontal, Manual Mill – Vertical, Manual Boring Mill - HorizontalGroup 2 Equipment: CNC Lathe, CNC MillGroup 3 Skills: Surface Grinder, Drill Press, BalancingGroup 4 Skills: Spray Welding, Line Boring

 

There are four levels of Machinist:

Machinist I – Entry Level to Proficient in operating 1 piece from Group 1 or Group 2 EquipmentMachinist II – Advanced ability to operate (2) pieces of Group 1 Equipment or Group 2 EquipmentMachinist III – Advanced ability to operate all Group 1 Equipment, advanced ability to operate at least (1) piece from Group 2 Equipment, and be proficient in Group 3 SkillsMachinist IV- Advanced ability to operate all Group 1 Equipment, all Group 2 Equipment, and be proficient in Group 3 and Group 4 skills. What You'll Do Safely and efficiently operate assigned equipmentRead, understand, and accurately execute work orders and quality assurance (QA) standards per job requirementsFacilitate setups and changeovers within machine capacitiesSecure work pieces and operate stops and guides for proper alignmentMonitor machine functions during operation to ensure accurate output within tolerance requirementsPerform quality checks during production to ensure part/piece meets tolerance requirementsFollow proper procedures when defective parts are discoveredMonitor and assist plant operations in accordance with company policies and plant standard operating proceduresPerform any general work or other assignments necessary to ensure safe, clean, and efficient shop operationsObtain Competent Operator Certification and safely operate the overhead cranesPerform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of shop tools and equipmentMaintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all timesAssist with organizing materials and supplies for jobsCommunicate and work effectively with shop personnel, supervisors, and management to achieve project goals

Working Conditions

Sit, talk, hear, read, and writeWalk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and armsStand for extended periods of timeLift and/or move up to 50 poundsPerform duties indoors in a shop setting with occasional work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions What You'll Bring Previous relevant machining experience preferredAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsMust possess excellent math skills including adding, subtracting, decimals and fractionsAbility to use measuring devices such as tape measures, squares, protractors, compasses, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, verniers, etc.Possess working knowledge of basic blueprints and drawingsAbility to operate a variety of shop metal working equipment preferredKnowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in an industrial shop settingPossess knowledge of metal plate types (steel, aluminum, stainless, galvanized, etc.), sizes, and shapes (beams, channels, angles, pipe, flat bar, etc.) preferredMechanical aptitude preferredExperience with use of an overhead crane preferredProven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing Must be dependable, trustworthy, possess a positive attitude, and be willing to work independently or in a team environmentAbility to troubleshoot project challenges involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsAbility to effectively multitaskAbility to meet strict deadlines and prioritize competing work assignmentsValid driver’s license is required How We'll Support You
