Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Resource Coordinator, you will be responsible for precision machining of mechanical components to support the maintenance of plant and mining equipment. The role ensures equipment availability and reliability by performing machining operations in accordance with technical drawings, safety standards, and production requirements.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

 

Perform machining tasks including turning, milling, drilling, grinding, cutting, and fitting of mechanical components.

Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and job specifications.

Manufacture replacement parts for pumps, gearboxes, shafts, and other plant/mechanical equipment.

Conduct inspections and measurements to ensure accuracy and adherence to tolerances.

Set up, operate, and maintain machine shop equipment including lathes, milling machines, slotting machines, grinders, band saws, and drilling machines.

Carry out preventive maintenance on machine tools and maintain high housekeeping standards in the workshop.

Collaborate with maintenance teams to deliver quality repairs and minimize equipment downtime.

Ensure compliance with LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy in all machining activities.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending machining process improvements.

Provide technical advice to supervisors and planners regarding repair feasibility

Maintain machining job records using integrated maintenance systems (e.g., SAP).

Record inspection results, part measurements, and machining history.

Follow established maintenance and quality systems.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Full Grade 12 School Certificate.

Craft Certificate in Machining/Metal Machining or equivalent recognized qualification.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in machining within heavy industry, mining, or manufacturing.

Skilled in lathe, milling, drilling, and grinding operations.

Proficient with precision measurement tools (micrometres, vernier callipers, dial indicators).

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Knowledge of machining safety standards and workshop practices.

Experience in repair and fabrication of mining/process equipment components.

Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces and at heights if required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
