Summary:
Howmet Structure Systems has an immediate opening for a Machinist located at our Niles Facility. This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance operation and preventative maintenance of manufacturing equipment within the plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of a Maintenance Machinist.
Primary Function:
The primary function of the Machinist position is to layout work, set up and operate all machine tools such as lathe, planer, shaper, milling machine, drill press, etc. Dismantle, fit and assemble parts in maintaining mill equipment.
Tools and Equipment:
Milling machine, grinder, drill press, lathe, broaching machines, saws, presses, shaper, end mills, reamers, cutting tools, etc.
Materials:
Ferrous, non-ferrous and non-metallic materials, cutting oils, grinding compounds, etc.
Working Procedure:
+ Directed by Maintenance Foreman and assistant, works alone or directs other workmen as required. Receives instructions, prints, and work orders. Performs layout work. Calculates and determines some dimensions majority of dimensions shown on drawings. Sets up and operates machine tools. Dismantles machinery and equipment. Assembles, fits, aligns machinery and equipment. Works in shop or field as required.
+ Make general repairs to equipment and interpret detailed assembly and complex part drawings. Work involves considerable variations in operation.
+ Plans work detail from complex blueprints.
+ Make shop and field sketches and select material.
+ Use various machine and hand tools to perform tasks involving close tolerances.
+ Moderate attention and care required to avoid damage to tools.
+ Performs individual processing involving the use of complex machine tools.
+ Ordinary care and attention required to prevent injury to others.
+ Close mental or visual applications required to plan and layout work, interpret drawings & sketches, grind tools, gauge work and adjust equipment for proper metal removal.
+ Light physical exertion required to manipulate light controls, grind tools, use light hand tools, clean up, etc.
Pay Rate and Benefit
+ The combined rate of pay for this position is $35.77.

Basic Qualifications:
+ Candidates must have completed a state or federally approved apprenticeship program as a machinist or have a minimum of eight years of relevant on-the-job experience as a maintenance machinist or have completed two years of post-secondary vocational school in these subjects plus four years of relevant on-the-job experience.
+ High school diploma or GED is required
+ 3-5 years of experience
+ Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
+ Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
+ Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
+ The position requires an individual to stand, climb, work at heights, stoop, move equipment; bend, reach, or lift for prolonged periods of time. PPE includes FR9 clothing, safety glasses, hard hat, and steel toed boots with metatarsal protection, hearing protection and other safety equipment as required.
+ Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
