**Job Title: Machinist II**
**Job Description**
The Machinist II position demands a high level of proficiency, requiring the individual to set up and operate machines, and utilize tooling necessary to make or repair parts. This role requires five years of experience as a machinist. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and layout machining procedures. The ability to weld all materials and operate all machines and equipment in the shop is essential. The candidate should also be capable of creating value by completing work orders promptly and cross-training others to enhance shop capabilities.
**Responsibilities**
+ Study specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, or descriptions of parts to be replaced, and plan the sequence of operations.
+ Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
+ Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, drill presses, and other machining equipment to machine parts to specifications.
+ Verify conformance of parts to specifications using measuring instruments.
+ Position and secure parts on surface plates or worktables using devices like vises, V-blocks, and plates.
+ Use hand tools to fit and assemble parts into assemblies or mechanisms.
+ Verify dimensions and alignment using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
+ Operate mechanisms or machines, observe operations, or test them with inspection equipment to diagnose malfunctions or test repaired machines.
+ Assist with preventive maintenance on equipment as specified or required to ensure smooth startup and operation.
+ Perform welding on all materials and soldering as needed.
+ Observe all safety and environmental procedures, ensuring compliance with engagement points and QSRs.
**Essential Skills**
+ Ability to operate lathe and mill machines.
+ Proficiency in writing machine coding.
+ Strong troubleshooting skills.
+ Mechanical expertise.
+ Experience in machine operation and machining.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Machine Tool Diploma/Degree preferred.
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ 2 - 3 years of relevant machinist experience.
+ Experience in manual lathe and mill work.
**Work Environment**
The work environment includes a night shift from 8 PM to 8 AM, providing ample opportunity for overtime. The role offers direct placement within the company.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Permanent position based out of Sumter, South Carolina.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $43472.00 - $66560.00/yr.
