Position Summary
As Machine Shop Supervisor, you will be overseeing and coordinating machinists, ensuring production meets quality standards, and managing daily operations including scheduling and safety protocols. Your leadership will be vital in developing a skilled workforce, optimizing processes, and achieving operational goals that align with our strategic priorities.
Essential Functions
• Team leadership: Supervise machinists, assign work, provide training, conduct performance reviews, and motivate staff.
• Production management: Develop processes to increase efficiency, manage production schedules, and ensure timely completion of orders.
• Quality control: Inspect finished work to ensure it meets all specifications and quality standards and maintain a high level of production quality.
• Technical expertise: Read blueprints, interpret sketches, and plan the sequence of operations for fabricating parts.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting: Oversee the setup and operation of equipment, troubleshoot and repair machinery, and maintain tooling and fixtures.
• Foster a culture of safety, quality, and employee empowerment by enforcing standardized work, 5S principles, and compliance with safety regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools and methodologies (e.g., PDCA cycles, pull systems, leveling workloads) to reduce costs, lead times, and inventory.
• Develop, coach, and mentor Team Members and their Leads to build a qualified, engaged, and high-performing team.
• Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss challenges, share solutions, and promote open communication.
• Utilize visual management tools such as Tracking Centers and Team Improvement Boards to monitor performance and ensure transparency.
• Ensure cross-training of Team Members to maintain operational flexibility and uninterrupted workflow.
• Promote a positive work environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and “right-first time” quality standards.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree (required)in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
• Must be bilingual Spanish
• Proficiency with various metal machining tools, precision measuring devices, and CNC machines.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and find solutions to production issues.
• Technical and mechanical knowledge of machines, processes, and maintenance.
• Proven leadership experience managing production teams in a manufacturing environment.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to lead and influence teams to achieve operational and continuous improvement goals.
Preferred Qualifications
• 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience in manufacturing.
• Firsthand experience with Lean manufacturing principles and leading Lean teams.
• Solid understanding of accounting, inventory control, and production planning systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build teamwork, assess skills, and develop employees.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and fostering a continuous improvement culture.
