Machine Operator
**Job Title: Machine Operator** **Job Description** The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and productive operation of machines, which may include Granulator, Shredder, Color System, Wet Sorter System, and/or Extruder. This role involves material handling and maintaining a high-quality product. **Responsibilities** + Understand, follow, and apply information from the Run Instruction Sheet (RIS). Set up, run, shut down, troubleshoot, clean, and perform general maintenance on machines. + Take regular and proper samples, systematically probe boxes as directed by RIS, and report inequities to lab personnel and supervisors. + Thoroughly clean boxes, lids, and skids before use, and dispose of any substandard material. + Complete the Run Number Time Log at the end of each shift. + Update RIS as needed and communicate information to supervisors promptly. + Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift. + Maintain and complete logs for production ledgers (inbound, outbound, rejects, and run) and quality control. + Complete Work in Process (WIP) or Ready for Sale (RFS) tags. + Compute weights using gross, tare, and net figures accurately. + Weigh material in boxes and hoppers, recording weights correctly. + Become a certified operator on both a forklift and aerial lift as needed. + Assist with training new associates. + Load and unload material, placing it into inventory locations using a forklift or pallet jack. + Compute pounds per hour processed during runs and compute percentages to document run conditions and productivity standards. + Prepare boxes for material by placing labels in proper locations and/or removing extra labels. + Participate in shift meetings and training sessions. **Essential Skills** + Manufacturing experience working around machines (ideally 1+ year). + Capacity for making mathematical computations, including adding, subtracting, and calculating percentages. + Good handwriting for maintaining records on paper. + Experience troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment. + Sit-down forklift experience. + Ability to stand for the duration of the shift outside of breaks. + Ability to lift up to 65 lbs, not repetitively. + Comfortable with heights to operate an aerial lift as needed (25 feet with a harness). + Must have steel-toed or composite-toed shoes. + Ability to work mandated Saturdays if business dictates. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Basic math skills. + Mechanical aptitude. + Experience with machine operation and production. + Quality check experience. + Knowledge of plastics manufacturing, injection molding machine, and extrusion. **Why Work Here?** Enjoy comprehensive benefits including medical, prescription drugs, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts (FSAs), life and AD&D, disability, and an employee assistance program (EAP). The facility can be dusty and noisy, requiring hearing and eye protection. Employees must be willing to climb stairs or use an aerial lift. The work environment is hot in the summer and comfortably cool in the winter. Proper attire includes fitted clothing without holes, steel or composite-toed shoes, and no dangling jewelry. Good personal hygiene is required, and cell phones or smartwatches are not allowed on the production floor. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
