**Job Summary**
The Office of Medical Student Education at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the MD Admissions Director. Partnering with the Assistant Dean for Admissions, the Director will lead all strategic and operational aspects of medical student recruitment, application review, and admissions. This role involves developing and implementing admissions policies, overseeing national and local recruitment efforts, and cultivating partnerships with pre-med advisors and pathway programs. The Director manages the full admissions cycle, including applicant screening, interview coordination, and matriculation, while ensuring alignment with evolving national standards and institutional goals. They supervise admissions staff, manage budgets, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance admissions processes and promote the school's mission. The Director also oversees special events such as Second Look Weekend and initial MD program onboarding, and contributes to data analysis, reporting, and promotional materials in partnership with communications and evaluation teams. This position requires strategic vision, leadership, and a commitment to excellence in medical education.
The MD Admissions Director is a hybrid position requiring on average 2-3 days/week onsite. Seasonal events and activities require some in-person work and travel on nights and weekends.

**Responsibilities***
Oversee and direct all programmatic elements related to the recruitment, review, and admission of prospective medical students. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
+ Initiate admissions office strategic planning. Make recommendations to Assistant Dean for Admissions for new programs, policy changes, recruitment strategies, admissions requirements, and upholding standards with partner programs. Actively incorporate changes at national and local levels into the strategic planning process (e.g. curriculum change, admissions pre-requisites).
+ Lead and plan recruitment efforts locally and nationally. Travel to candidate locations to promote the program and recruit outstanding candidates. Form, cultivate, and grow partnerships with pre-medical advisors across the country. Advocate for and promote pathway programs to advance recruitment.
+ Oversee systems and application processes for medical school screening, interviewing, admission, and matriculation with the Assistant Dean for Admissions.
+ Review and screen applicant files.
+ Manage secondary application file reviews, confidential matters, and sensitive issues regarding individual applicants; respond to Admissions inquiries, advise applicants on admissions processes and procedures.
+ Lead Admissions staff in the oversight, planning and coordination of?Admissions Interview Days. This includes invitations to applicants, establishing the schedule of interviews, development of candidate evaluation tools, recruitment of faculty, staff, student and alumni interviewers, and responding rapidly to immediate concerns of staff, Admissions Committee members, or applicants.
+ Work with the Admissions Projects and Events Specialist in review of projects such as the Medical Student Ambassador Program, Admissions Committee, Second Look Weekend revisit days, etc.
+ Organize work of the Admission Executive Committee and provide guidance related to admission processes and policy, partner with the faculty, alumni and medical students on the Admissions Committee to establish standard assessment practices and guide evaluation of candidates.
+ Collaborate with the Michigan Medicine Development and Alumni Relations team to foster relationships from admissions offer through matriculation.
+ Produce reports and summaries of admissions data for analysis and research. Interpret data and share with UMMS senior leaders, OMSE leadership, and OMSE units. Respond to AAMC survey requests for admissions data.
+ Plan, write, and edit publicity and promotional materials, including admission guide and web-based information created in partnership with UMMS Marketing and Communications; Continue collaborations through the applicant cycle to ensure clarity and appeal of promotional materials, web interfaces, social media platforms, etc.
+ Collaborate with the Evaluation and Assessment team, Assistant Dean for Admissions, and OMSE leadership to review and analyze admissions data, implement and establish data driven decisions, and adopt supportive technology tools in the recruitment and assessment of applicants (e.g. AI analysis).
+ Partner with UMMS Leadership, Associate and Assistant Deans, MM Development, and Financial Aid to set and execute scholarship strategy.
+ Attend and present at local, regional, and national conferences.
Oversee and direct office operations for the UMMS MD Admissions Office. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
+ Hire, evaluate, train and supervise admission staff. Assign work responsibilities. Evaluate employee performance and utilize internal and external opportunities for professional development.
+ Collaborate with Assistant Dean and OMSE Administrative Director to strategize and plan annual budgets supporting all elements of the Admissions program.
+ Work with OMSE Administrative Director to review, track, and adjust Admissions programmatic expenses and revenue sources. Review and authorize Admissions Office procurement requests.
+ Partner with HITS to develop and provide feedback on Admissions IT tools, data visualizations, and utilization.
+ Represent the Admissions Office and U-M Medical School to other institutions of higher education, University Schools/Colleges/Units, professional organizations, media and the public.
+ Maintain collegiality with other medical schools and premedical advisors in the State of Michigan through events such as the Medical Education Day.
+ Partner with other OMSE units (deans, directors, staff), MSTP, OMFS, and MM Health Advancement to share and strategize using best practices.
Direct special events specific to the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of medical students. This includes, but is not limited to overseeing the:
+ Processes related to matriculation of new medical students and handoffs to partner units in the Office of Medical Student Education.
+ On-campus recruitment events.
+ Student groups/organizations integral recruitment and retention programs (plan off-site events and meetings, establish schedules and agendas, assign projects).
+ Work with Assistant Dean for Admissions to assess continuously changing national admissions landscape and plan, run, and adjust national recruitment efforts accordingly.
**Required Qualifications***
+ Bachelor's degree. Master's Degree preferred.
+ Eight or more years of Admissions or Recruitment related experience.
+ Strong organizational and planning skills; able to manage complexity and nuance, set priorities, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
+ Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work well with applicants, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
+ Proven ability to act with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and preserve data integrity.
+ Strong writing skills, able to communicate information clearly and concisely for faculty, staff, and students.
+ Service oriented with ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
**Modes of Work**

**Background Screening**
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
