The Psychiatric or Mental/Behavioral Health LPN isresponsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process and thedelivery of patient care in the psychiatric unit of a hospital, mentalhealth/behavioral health hospital, or they can be responsible for care incommunity settings.

The LPN must demonstrate the ability to make clinicaljudgments in an effective and efficient manner with the supervision of a RegisteredNurse and in collaboration with the care team.

Minimum Requirements:

Current LPN license in state of assignment 1 year experience in a psychiatric care setting preferred Current CPR if applicable TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)  Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  Must be at least 18 years of age  Pay (Regular) Pay (Overtime) Meals Housing Gross Pay $34.00   $51.00   $1,428.00  Our client in Merced, CA seeks a dedicated Psych LVN for a Crisis Stabilization Unit.

POSITION DETAILS:

Hourly Pay – $34 per hour Location – Merced, CA Assignment Length – Ongoing 13 weeks+ Schedule – 12 hour shifts, NOC Shift (6:45p start time), alternating weekly, set schedule Week 1 – Sun, Mon, Thurs, Fri – 48 hrs/week Week 2 – Mon, Tue (8 hours), Fri – 32 hrs/week Tuesday shift is an 8 hours shift with a start time of 10:45pm.

JOB DUTIES: Provide direct nursing care to individuals in psychiatric crisis. Administer prescribed medications and monitor for side effects. Assist with intake assessments and documentation. Monitor vital signs and behavioral changes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support treatment plans. Maintain accurate and timely medical records. Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. Support de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques. REQUIREMENTS: Current California LVN license in good standing. CPR certification (BLS preferred). Experience in behavioral health or psychiatric settings preferred. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

General Comments

  Is there a ratio that an LVN could expect to overlook by themselves? The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) has a 4:1 consumer to nurse staffing ratio that has to be maintained at all times.  It’s a 4-bed facility. During a de-escalation scenario, is there a protocol to ensure that and nurse has support from other staff, or could there be instances where a nurse would be expected to handle situations by themselves. During a de-escalation scenario we first attempt verbal de-escalation, attempt to prompt consumers into their assigned rooms, administer/call for and administer meds as needed.

If necessary the nurse is expected to call for additional staff support from any Triage team present and the PFH facility as needed.   Response is very fast, we are sister divisions adjoined in the same building.
