PURPOSE OF POSITION
The primary purpose is to provide clinical support to the physicians, advanced practice nurse and RN’s. Also, to provide clerical support to the practice manager and office specialist and work cooperatively with office structure.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Room patients in a timely fashion making sure to identify patient and compare date of birth with chart. Obtain vital signs, height and weight. Promptly document in chart.
Answering of phones
On clinic days may be required to check patients in and out
Check the physicians and/or APRN schedules frequently for any add-ons or updates
Review the patient's medical record prior to visit to verify completeness, including having test results available
Update prescription refill requests and delegate to provider for approval
Prepping charts prior to patient coming into office to see provider.
Complete STS scores on TAVR and Mitral Clip patient charts.
Accurately arrange for various hospital procedures and tests to be scheduled. This includes precertification, authorizations and communicating with the patient
Accurately complete medical forms (Example: FMLA, disability forms etc.)
Copy and release medical records according to office procedures
Documentation in the medical record shall be accurate, timely and complete.
Provides education to the patient and/or family for all testing that is ordered.
Patient triage in person and on the phone.
Approach/communicate/collaborate with providers.
Restock and clean exam rooms after use according to protocol
Comply with all office policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of information obtained in the course of performing duties.
On clinic days required to complete Cerner intake form and medication reconciliation.
Job Requirements
LPN. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing.
Minimum three years of professional nursing experience. Clinic experience preferred. Experience in Cardiology or Cardiac Surgery a plus.
Current state licensed practical nurse license. Current CPR certificate.
Completion of all annual requirements including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, Safety, Employee Health service standards
Prompt and regular attendance with infrequent absenteeism and tardiness
Ability to meet and interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner
Effective interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work efficiently and accurately under conditions of stress with frequent interruptions
Must be able to work as a team and independently
Maintain a positive, friendly, and compassionate attitude
Must possess the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays. Coverage of vacations. Lunch breaks are coordinated with other staff members for adequate coverage.
May be subject to occasional overtime before or after normal working hours.
Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
Subject to frequent moving/standing/sitting during working hours.
KNOWLEDGE OF
Modern operational methods of a surgical practice or willingness to learn, must have a basic understanding of medical terminology, usage of computer systems and clerical equipment, must have a clear understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the patient/physician relationship.
Nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines and clinic policies and procedures.
Wellness/illness, growth and development, human behavior, psychosocial factors and alternative health care treatments.
Chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
