The Labor & Delivery Unit at Hillcrest Hospital is in the Family Maternity Center and includes labor and delivery, triage, operating rooms and recovery rooms. This Level III birthing unit delivers more than 4,800 births on average per year. Additionally, this unit houses a high-risk antepartum area, which features nine designated beds and Cord Blood Center (CBC) and offers hypnobirthing and a birthing tub. The LPNs who work within Labor and Delivery are also employed by Cleveland Cord Blood, who provide all of their training and competencies to collect cord blood at the time of delivery to use for patients in need within the Cleveland or surrounding areas. Most of the time in this role will be spent collecting the cord sample at the time of delivery and consulting and discussing cord blood donation with every patient admitted to Labor and Delivery. 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. -- 7:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Collect, document and report patient data and observations to the RN or authorized directing health care provider.  Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.  Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.    Perform routine laboratory tests. Educate patients and family members.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program Current Ohio licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

One year of patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.Involves extensive standing and walking.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
