The Registered Nurse (RN) working as a member of an inter-disciplinary team is integral to Clinical Transplant Services. The RN functions as a liaison between the patients and staff members of the transplant team (physicians, social worker, financial counselor, psychiatrists, etc.) and has the primary responsibility for providing direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients.  The RN provides meal and break coverage for other Liver Transplant Coordinators/RNs.  Provides/Assists with providing vacation coverage for Pre and Post Liver Coordinators and may provide clinic coverage.

Function/Duties of Position

The RN is responsible for assisting with screening and educating potential recipients, direction of the evaluation process, facilitation of committee review, direction of additional testing and update testing, and management of the waiting list.  The RN provides initial and on-going patient/family education in a variety of settings.  The RN assists with collection and evaluation of patient laboratory testing, diagnostic procedures, consults, and regulatory requirements.  After discharge, the RN may assist with patient follow-up including diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, biopsies, medication regimen and education accomplished through frequent contact with the patients and families, the physicians, and other team members.  The RN assesses patient and family needs, develops a plan of care, implements and evaluates the care delivered, working closely with all members of the inter-disciplinary team.  The RN is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.   

 

  

Department Specific Working Conditions:

Monday through Friday day shift. 8:30 am-5  pm.  Hybrid remote schedule available after orientation. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of the day performing repetitive computer related tasks and phone work.  Combination of onsite work in a space shared by multiple staff and telework. Ability to traverse the distances between buildings on campus as required Ability to complete assignments with numerous disturbances.

 

Required Qualifications Minimum 3- 5 years acute-care hospital nursing.  Able to triage and prioritize patient issues using critical thinking skills.Excellent written and verbal (incl. face-to-face) communication skills.Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.Able to work as part of a team and to work independently and problem-solve.Able to work with frequent interruptions.BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hireCurrent, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse LicenseBLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS must not expire during orientation Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications

Department Specific Preferences (competencies, certifications, etc.):

Liver Transplant Coordinator experience, strongly preferred.

Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator, preferred.

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
