Light Mobile Equipment (LME) Manager - Light Vehicles, Light Trucks &Cranes

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a high-caliber and experienced LME Manager – Light Vehicles, Light Trucks & Cranes to join our engineering leadership team. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring fleet compliance with statutory and internal standards, enforcing site-wide LME policies, managing inspections for both LMC and contractor fleets, overseeing crane maintenance and lifting compliance in line with Zambian legal requirements and mining best practices.

 Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Managing the maintenance, compliance, and performance of all light mobile equipment (LME) that includes Light Vehicles (LDVs, utility vehicles, ambulances), Light Trucks (up to medium-duty support fleet), Mobile & Fixed Cranes, Service Vehicles and Specialized Support Equipment Manage preventive and corrective maintenance of all light vehicles and light trucks, ensuring optimal fleet availability and reliability. Set and enforce site-wide LME standards, including contractor-owned vehicles operating within LMC’s jurisdiction. Oversee the full lifecycle of vehicles and equipment including acquisition input, utilization, servicing, inspections, and retirement. Conduct and lead regular inspections and audits of both LMC and contractor LME to verify compliance with safety, environmental, and mechanical standards. Lead the maintenance and statutory compliance program for all mobile and fixed cranes on site. Ensure timely inspection, testing, and certification of cranes, lifting gear, slings, and attachments in compliance with Zambian statutory regulations, OEM recommendations, and Barrick safety protocols. Coordinate third-party inspections and manage records for lifting permits, load certifications, and operator licenses. Own and enforce the LME compliance framework, ensuring full legal and operational adherence. Implement structured preventive maintenance plans using the site CMMS (SAP). Develop robust maintenance and inspection schedules, integrating them into site planning processes and shutdowns as required. Maintain accurate records of all inspections, defects, work orders, component replacements, and certifications. Lead a multidisciplinary team including supervisors, planners, inspectors, mechanics, and support contractors. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and technical excellence. Engage internal stakeholders and contractor representatives to align LME performance expectations and close compliance gaps. Work closely with the Safety, Supply Chain, and Operations departments to manage risk, inventory, and performance.

 To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Mining Engineering, or related technical field. Minimum 8 years’ experience in light vehicle/truck maintenance, with 3+ years in a leadership or Superintendent level role in a mining or heavy industrial environment. Strong working knowledge of Zambian statutory requirements for LME and lifting equipment. Experience managing mobile and fixed crane fleets, including statutory inspection and certification. Proficiency in using CMMS platforms (preferably SAP) and scheduling tools. Proven ability to manage contractor compliance and drive site-wide standards. Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills. Sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental management systems. Must be a member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
