This role provides user centered customer service and assistance at Earth Sciences & Map Library, as well as Libraries virtual services, on evenings and weekends. This position works with services partners to ensure consistent service and collaborates to improve practices as needed. This position supervises the Earth Sciences & Map services points during evening and weekend operational hours and supervises student employees during that time. This position operates independently for significant work periods and can flexibly address sophisticated issues within the scope of the Libraries Circulation Policy. This means that we develop a culture that compassionately and authentically embodies our values in all aspects of our work. **What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be** **Provide User Centered Customer Service** + Staffs in-person service point in Earth Sciences & Map library. + Staffs Libraries-wide virtual services including chat and email. + Provides general patron services - circulation, printing, scanning, research assistance, materials access, (using stacks, microform machines, etc.), and appropriate referrals. + Initiates patron account assistance and refer as needed - fines, replacements, discrepancies, etc. + Assists with other library services and routine patron account needs (study rooms, reserves, etc.) + Position is able to resolve common customer service issues independently. Uses job knowledge to derive solutions to non-standard patron issues and problems. **Collaborate with other Section and Team Members and Other Services Partners** + Monitors and evaluates current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvements. + Uses job knowledge to make suggestions and recommendations to improve services. + Works closely with Libraries Security and serves as evening & weekend site liaison for libraries security. + Works in partnership with other evening & weekend supervisors to ensure coverage of evening & weekend service points as needed. + Stays up to date with any changes in procedures. **Supervise Earth Sciences & Map Service Point and Oversee Student Employees during Weekend and Evening Operational Hours** + Works on-site during weekend and evening operational hours. + Works closely with other weekend and evening service point supervisors to ensure successful scheduling and collaboration. + Identify potential challenges with coverage and make suggestions for long-term solutions or independently tackle short-term staffing needs. + Organizes and maintains in-person desk. + Provide supervision of student personnel during weekend and evening operational hours at Earth Sciences & Map. + Train student personnel in circulation procedures and policies as needed. + Works closely with Earth Sciences & Map student supervisor to provide feedback on students and training needs. + Work closely with Libraries Security as main services contact on weekends and evenings. **Assist in Collection Processing and Maintenance** + Collaborate with Earth Sciences & Map and Gemmill Library Branch Managers to supervise student employees and develop processes in collection management projects. + Initiates and undertakes routine collection management processes within the Gemmill library. + Assist in the binding of serials in collaboration with relevant partners. **Professional Development** + Stay current with library science practice and trends. + Read professional publications and other information outlets such as listservs. + Attend instruction sessions and relevant talks. + Attend workshops and continuing education opportunities that relate to the Libraries' resources. + Develop skills in cataloging and preservation standard methodologies. **What You Should Know** + The standard academic year shift will be Sunday - Thursday 12 - 8 pm.
