The library is a hub for residents and visitors alike, offering a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Public Library Founded in 1974 through grassroots community efforts, this library is located in the heart of the historic Dunbar neighborhood. It houses Southwest Florida’s largest African-American book collection and sits adjacent to Dunbar Community School, a hub for adult education, GED programs, and community events. It’s more than a library—it’s a community cornerstone. Duties and Responsibilities + Provide high-quality customer service at the circulation desk, including issuing library cards and checking materials in and out. + Assist patrons with locating materials and using library services. + Maintain accurate patron records and circulation statistics. + Operate various library technologies, including computers, self-check machines, photocopiers, and cash registers. + Shelve books and materials in correct order. + Inspect returned materials and report damages. + Process holds and prepare items for patron pickup. + Collect fines/fees and prepare deposits. + Order and maintain library supplies and brochures. Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Qualifications + High school diploma or GED required. + One year of experience in a fast-paced, professional customer service role (or a closely related field). Preferred Qualifications + Two years of post-secondary education. + Three or more years of direct customer service experience. + Proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus. + Exceptional communication and teamwork skills. + Valid driver’s license preferred. + Experience working with diverse populations, including children, teens, and non-English speakers. Supplemental Information + Must be able to work a flexible 40-hour bi-weekly schedule, including evenings, Saturdays, and occasional Sundays. + Willingness to transfer to another library branch temporarily or permanently, based on organizational needs.
