Duties Description Position Overview:The Assembly Republican Conference is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legislative Legal Assistant to support our Floor Operations Team and elected Assemblymembers. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced legislative environment and enjoys legal support, organization, and collaboration.What We Mean by “The Floor”In the New York State Assembly, “the Floor” refers to the Assembly Chamber — the formal setting where Legislative Session is held. This is where Assemblymembers meet to debate and vote on bills. The Floor Operations team ensures that the legislative process runs smoothly and that Members have the legal guidance they need during and leading up to session.Ideal Candidate:The successful candidate will be organized, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple priorities. A strong ability to work under deadlines, communicate effectively, and maintain confidentiality is essential.Key Responsibilities• Provide specialized support, under the direction of the Floor Counsel, to the Floor Team and Assemblymembers;• Assist in tracking votes and debate preparation during Legislative Session;• Collaborate on and analyze legislation;• Conduct legal research and prepare concise summaries; • Manage and maintain legal documents, records, and databases with accuracy and attention to detail;• Research and compile background materials, including transcripts and supporting information;• Crosstrain on all unit duties to ensure cohesive operations and efficiency;• Execute special projects and provide administrative assistance as required by the Senior Advisor to the Leader.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications• Two (2) years of full-time experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant; and• One of the following educational credentials:o Associate degree (or higher) in a paralegal/legal assistant/legal studies program ORo Certificate in a paralegal/legal assistant program from a regionally accredited college/university or one approved by the American Bar Association.
