Legal Counsel (Mississauga, Canada – Bilingual, French/English required)
As Legal Counsel, you will provide business‑focused legal and compliance support across all Philips Canada businesses, including regulatory and privacy matters, procurement and research contracts, and day‑to‑day business advisory. You act as the primary legal partner for Personal Health, support Health Systems as needed, and manage all litigation—overseeing external counsel, coordinating with insurers, and guiding cases to resolution, as well as lead key compliance functions, monitoring regulatory changes, managing required filings, engaging with regulators, and delivering training. The role also supports broader organizational initiatives, offering oversight and legal input on various programs and stakeholder activities. You may represent Philips in external industry forums and contribute to internal governance efforts, including those related to regulatory, language, and French‑language compliance. **Your role:** * Manages small to medium complexity legal topics, ensuring thorough understanding and resolution of legal issues impacting the business. Provides timely and relevant legal advice to the business, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while supporting organizational objectives. Additionally, you will prepare and negotiate contracts directly with customers, striving for terms that safeguard the organization's interests and foster positive business relationships, working under limited supervision. * Collaborates with external counsel to discuss and formulate legal strategies concerning legal claims, ensuring a comprehensive approach to risk management. Analyzes problems with diverse scope, evaluating identifiable factors and data to deliver expert resolutions and recommendations to stakeholders. * Embraces a LEAN mindset to enhance productivity and efficiency within legal processes, continuously identifying and implementing improvement opportunities. Provides expert resolution of legal issues, monitors the integration of legal work into broader business functions, and ensures seamless coordination across teams. **You're the right fit if:** + You’ve acquired 3+ years relevant in-house or private practice experience, within the Healthcare or Medtech (preferred), with bilingual ability in French/English (required). + Your skills include demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts, research & analysis, regulatory compliance, policy development, stakeholder management, training, litigation management and legal compliance management. + You have Bachelor's Degree (any kind) + Law Degree (LL.B. or Juris Doctor) - must be licensed Canadian lawyer (required). A certification in Canadian privacy law (Canadian Information Privacy Professional – Canada, CIPP/C), a bonus. + You’re an excellent communicator (written and verbal in French/English), with strong stakeholder management, and business partnering capabilities. You also possess meticulous organizational and project management skills with the ability to work independently in complex environments with the ability to flex your work style when required to meet deadlines. **How we work together** We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
