DHL Legal Services offers all business partners worldwide solution-oriented legal advice. We provide comprehensive support in contracts, negotiations, and processes with customers and suppliers as well as in general litigation and commercial law matters. 

In a matrix organization, Legal Services is organized on the one hand according to regions and on the other hand according to global cross-sectional topics. 

   

Job Purpose: 

Legal Counsel is responsible for providing general legal advice to the businesses served within a cluster of countries (Express: Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Chad, Central African Republic & Burundi). Works with supervisor to define and recommend legal strategies and objectives designed to mitigate the organization's legal exposure. Works with supervisor to implement best in class legal processes and procedures to assure business objectives are met and legal risks are identified and mitigated.

 

Your tasks: 

Provides general legal advice, including contract (customer and vendor) support to businesses served. Advises members of the business on legal and related risks associated with DHL's operations in area of responsibility, including negotiations related to Postal matters, any type of negotiation with local regulators and administrations Analyze and interpret case law, court reports, and proposed and existing laws and regulations to prepare technical reports on how they impact the organisation’s operations, follow up with external lawyer of all litigation cases (labor, civil, commercial, criminal, administrative, etc. and manage all invoices related to legal services provided by external lawyer) and update of internal legal systems/tools (Passport) with financial provisions recommended. Prepare legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters (e.g., loans, leases, purchase agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, employment contracts) to protect the organisation's legal and business interests, provide training related to commercial contracts, compliance, when required by the business Advises business on legal trends and developing areas of law. Works with supervisor to manage internal and external legal spend in area of responsibility. Works as member of a team defending the organization's legal interests in litigation and claims in own area of responsibility which may include external legal spend May assists with budget preparation for legal function in area of responsibility Conversant with and understanding of legal technology and its potential use in delivering legal services  

Your profile: 

8+ years of legal practice either within commercial law firm or in house legal department; Growing understanding of DHL's business operations; goals and strategies in area of responsibility Ability to apply legal knowledge and expertise in business environment Ability to work autonomously Experience with OHADA law and Francophone Africa (especially Cameroon, Burkina Faso Chad) Developing legal analytical skills Fluent in English and French Master's degree in Law or equivalent legal qualification Bar Affiliation appreciated
