About the Role

Responsible for providing support to the General Counsel in overseeing and managing the legal matters of AIA Singapore so as to ensure robust risk management, together with the Risk and Compliance functions, of the Company.

Primary focus on providing legal support and advice on Technology, Information Security and Goveernance/Cybersecurity and data-related (including privacy) issues to the Technology department and various other Business Units undertaking enterprise data security, analytics and digitalisation projects, to ensure compliance with applicable laws/regulations

Responsibilities:

To provide Singapore law advice and support to the Technology, Life Operations and Technology Risk and Compliance departments, on compliance with relevant technology-related laws and MAS guidelines/notices/circulars and issues arising from enterprise data security, analytics and digitalisation projects, including reviewing regulatory correspondence, drafting/reviewing/negotiating agreements, reviewing relevant customer journey(s)/app processes, related memos, documentation and internal reports/standards/policies/procedures.  [70%]

To drive and support legal digitalization initiatives and legal operations optimisation projects.  [15%]

Perform other responsibilities and duties assigned by General Counsel in order to meet any other business needs for legal support, advice and/or coordination with various stakeholders from AIA Group Office and other AIA affiliates.  [15%]

Requirements:

A law degree from a recognized university. 

At least 8 years PQE, of which at least 4 were spent in practice/at a law firm.

Experience in IT/technology and cybersecurity issues essential. In-house experience at a regulated financial institution in Singapore ideal but optional.

Familiar with local laws/regulations applicable to the financial/insurance industry in Singapore, in particular those on technology risk, cybersecurity, cyber-hygiene, data protection and outsourcing guidelines and applicable best practices.

Admitted to the Singapore Bar, and of good standing. Candidates who are not Singapore-qualified but with common law qualifications and strong familiarity with Singapore regulatory/legal requirements on cybersecurity and data privacy will be considered.

Strong problem-solving aptitude and attitude – willingness and ability to quickly pinpoint issues and work with relevant stakeholders to resolve.

Excellent communication and presentation skills - ability to present advice/opinions and business solutions in a clear and concise manner.

Affable and firmly confident demeanour – able to connect and collaborate well with stakeholders from different technical backgrounds and across different levels of seniority.

Autonomous worker, able to multi-task and work under time pressure.

Resourceful – adept at research and quick learner

Humble, resilient, adaptable and meticulous.
