Division Description
The Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) provides legal support to all SBS programs, initiatives and divisions. Under the supervision of the General Counsel, and the Deputy General Counsel, the OLC ensures that SBS programs are operating efficiently and are in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and City laws, rules and regulations. OLC handles hundreds of solicitations, contracts, grants, appeals, legislation, regulations, requests, and inquiries related to the operation and governance of the agency, its affiliated non-profits and government partners.
Job Description:
Under the supervision and direction of the Associate and Assistant General Counsels, Deputy General Counsel and the General Counsel, the Legal Coordinator is expected to:
- Participate in meetings and assist the attorneys in various tasks in connection with OLC’s work for the agency and its affiliated non-profits and partner offices, including without limitation the several economic development entities for which SBS provides administrative oversight or assistance;
- Maintain and update electronic and hardcopy files for the various procurement solicitations, grants, applications, contracts and other agreements on behalf of the agency and its affiliated non-profits with outside vendors and entities and communicate with SBS program and administrative divisions regarding processes/procedures;
- Conduct non-legal research and legal research under supervision of an attorney, draft or review memoranda and reports, etc. as required to assist OLC staff on a variety of topics involving City, State and Federal regulations, policies and government or programmatic operations;
- Assist OLC staff with the M/WBE appeals and decision process; draft opinions, present facts and decisions to Deputies, General Counsel and M/WBE program staff; and
- Assist the OLC staff with other assignments and projects as needed, including Freedom of Information Law requests, Conflicts of Interest matters, regulatory/permit matters, administrative hearings, litigation support, nonprofit governance, audits and other legal, administrative and programmatic matters that may arise as directed by OLC staff.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37. However, note that per this program, employees may be required to report to the workplace in person if operational needs warrant.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
