Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Legal Clerk to support a growing immigration law team in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This role starts as a 13-week contract with strong potential to convert to a full-time position based on attendance, performance, and overall fit with the team. The position focuses heavily on mail processing, document organization, and administrative support, with opportunities to expand into additional responsibilities and potentially grow into a lead role over time.

Responsibilities

Sort, open, and process high volumes of incoming mail and client case documents in an accurate and timely manner.Organize, alphabetize, and file physical and electronic documents according to established filing systems and procedures.Review incoming documents to identify case types and ensure they are routed to the correct files or teams.Update tracking sheets and case information within the case management system and Excel spreadsheets with a high level of accuracy.Work in both the mailroom and main operations area to support daily workflow and team needs.Provide general administrative support, including data entry, document preparation, and file maintenance.Maintain quality and consistency while performing repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrate reliability and punctuality, supporting strong attendance standards for potential conversion to full-time.Collaborate professionally with leadership and teammates, responding positively to feedback and direction.Learn and take on additional responsibilities over time, including cross-training on multiple job functions to support the team where needed.

Essential Skills

Three or more years of administrative experience.Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling documents and data.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.Ability to be cross-trained on multiple job functions and remain flexible to support changing daily needs.Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and general computer skills.Comfort using case management or similar software systems after training.High school diploma or equivalent.Experience working with filing systems and document organization.Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Previous experience in a law firm, particularly in immigration law, is a plus.Previous mailroom or file clerk experience is preferred but not required.Ability to adapt to repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and consistency.Openness to feedback and willingness to learn new processes and responsibilities.Interest in growing into a lead role as skills and performance develop.Professional demeanor and respect for leadership and teammates.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. The work takes place in both a mailroom and main operations area within an immigration law setting, where the pace is fast and the volume of documents is high. Business casual attire is required, with jeans permitted on Fridays for a casual dress day. The team culture emphasizes professionalism, collaboration, and mutual respect, with several group lunches, team activities, and quarterly team outings that foster a supportive and engaging environment. The position is a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering the potential for long-term growth and advancement, including the opportunity to move into a lead role for high-performing employees.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
