Lecturer - M.A. in Counseling Psychology (Multiple Positions)
The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) and the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education welcome passionate educators to join our team as a part-time adjunct faculty member. The following courses may be offered to part-time faculty members during the 2025-2026 academic year: Measurement & Evaluation (PSY 560) - Fall 2025 This course will provide students with an overview of the theoretical and practical basis for assessment. Students will develop an understanding of how reliability, validity, and psychometric statistics are applied to the development of psychological assessments before being introduced to a wide range of assessment instruments. Ethical application of tests will be a theme throughout the course. The importance of interviewing the client, considering the client's intersecting identities, and utilizing measurement results in treatment planning will be discussed in the context of assessment. Addictive Disorders (PSY 565) - Fall 2025 This course prepares students for work with clients who present with substance use and other addictive disorders. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and interventions throughout the stages of misuse, abuse, dependency, and recovery will be addressed. Students will also explore and develop skills in motivational interviewing, harm reductions, and a variety of other treatment modalities. Crisis Intervention (PSY 550) - Spring 2026 This course will provide an understanding of the theories and practice of crisis intervention, short-term counseling strategies, and the responsibilities of all those involved in the intervention. Principles of intervention will be considered on the individual, family, group, and community levels. Sociocultural influences on crisis and intervention will also be discussed. Additionally, stress and burnout, as they affect crisis clinicians, will be examined, and strategies for prevention and professional development discussed. Essential duties include, but are not limited to: + Lesson planning + Assignment design + Grading + Correspondence with students + Course coordination meetings + Required orientation and trainings (i.e., compliance training) Required Qualifications: + Master's degree in Counseling Psychology or a closely related field + Academic preparation adequate for the course(s) to be taught Preferred Qualifications: + Minimum of two (2) years' of college teaching experience + Licensed in Maine as an LCPC or LCSW Technology Requirements: Part-time faculty members teaching at the University of Maine at Farmington are required to have the appropriate technology to teach in a fully online environment. This includes, but is not limited to: + Computer (laptop) with appropriate amounts of processing speed + High-speed internet connection + Webcam + Microphone Salary & Benefits: Part-time faculty members are compensated on a per-credit-hour basis, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and in accordance with the Maine Part-Time Faculty Association (PATFA) contract. Teaching opportunities in future semesters are based on course funding, performance, need and availability. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.
