Lecturer
New York University
NYU Prague is seeking a Lecturer to teach Existentialism and Phenomenology, a philosophy course that introduces students to two of the most influential movements in twentieth-century European thought. The course examines central themes such as freedom, responsibility, authenticity, embodiment, and consciousness through the works of key figures including Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, de Beauvoir, and Merleau-Ponty. The lecturer will be responsible for preparing and delivering intellectually engaging lectures, facilitating seminar-style discussions that encourage critical reflection and debate, and guiding students in close reading and interpretation of complex philosophical texts. Additional duties include designing and grading written assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback, holding office hours, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse perspectives.
Candidates should hold an advanced degree in philosophy or a related field, have demonstrated teaching experience in modern European philosophy, and be able to engage a diverse, international cohort of undergraduate students in rigorous and reflective study. Recommendation letters are welcome in support of applications.
Please submit a Cover Letter and your CV. Recommendation letters may be included with the application and will be considered as part of the review process.
