Job Description

The Leave of Absence Specialist, Associate manages and oversees all aspects of employee leave requests, including medical, personal, and family-related absences, in a dynamic and fast-paced corporate environment. This role delivers best-in-class service to employees throughout their entire leave journey, ensuring that procedures are executed smoothly and that employees receive appropriate support and clear communication during their time away from work.

Responsibilities

Manage and monitor the shared leave of absence email inbox in Microsoft Outlook, taking timely action on inquiries and requests and following up with leave specialists as needed.Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and related regulations, as well as collective bargaining agreements.Analyze and resolve leave of absence issues, ensuring accurate assessment of eligibility, compliance with policies, and appropriate documentation.Provide effective, responsive, and professional communication with employees and internal and external partners to support collaborative relationships and a positive leave experience.Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date records of leave requests and supporting documentation in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.Balance leave of absence needs with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements to ensure fair and compliant decisions.Use HRIS and other technology platforms to manage leave cases efficiently and enhance operational effectiveness.Support continuous improvement of leave processes by identifying trends, issues, and opportunities for better service and compliance.

Essential Skills

At least 2+ years of experience in an administrative or customer service setting.Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive and complex employee situations professionally.Strong Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency with Outlook for managing shared inboxes.Experience with HRIS systems and data entry for managing employee information and leave records.Knowledge of leave requirements and legal protections under FMLA, ADA, and other applicable federal and state laws.Knowledge of leave of absence and workers’ compensation management, including relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.Ability to analyze and balance leave of absence needs with laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong oral and written communication abilities.Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.High school diploma or equivalent.Experience in a call center, customer support, or leave management environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency in navigating various technology platforms and software applications to manage leave cases and improve operational efficiency.Completion of specialized certification or training in leave administration is a plus.Professional HR certifications such as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP are preferred.Experience working in a corporate office environment.Interest in building a longer-term career in HR, benefits, or leave administration.

Work Environment

This role is based in a corporate cubicle office setting at a major aviation-focused location. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position requires onsite presence for the first three weeks of training, followed by a hybrid schedule of four days in person and one day remote each week. You will work in a professional office environment using Microsoft Office, HRIS systems, and other technology platforms to manage leave cases and communications. The setting is structured, collaborative, and fast-paced, offering a strong entry point into a large, well-established organization where successful contractors often transition into longer-term opportunities. Dress expectations align with a typical corporate office environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
