Leave of Absence Manager
The Leave of Absence Manager is responsible for overseeing the administration and strategic management of all employee leave programs, including FMLA, short-term and long-term disability, parental leave, military leave, and other statutory or company-sponsored leaves. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while delivering a seamless and empathetic employee experience.
Responsibilities
· Manage end-to-end leave processes, including intake, eligibility determination, documentation, tracking, and return-to-work coordination
· Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, managers, and HR partners regarding leave policies and procedures
· Maintain accurate records and ensure timely communication throughout the leave lifecycle
· Ensure adherence to FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, state-specific leave laws, and internal policies
· Partner with legal and compliance teams to mitigate risk and respond to audits or inquiries
· Stay current on legislative changes and update policies accordingly
· Manage relationships with third-party leave administrators and insurance carriers
· Oversee leave management systems and ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy
· Collaborate with HRIS and payroll teams to ensure proper coding and pay continuity
· Provide empathetic support and guidance to employees navigating complex leave situations
· Develop and deliver training and resources for managers and HRBP’s
· Champion a culture of care and inclusion through thoughtful leave practices
· Analyze leave trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
· Recommend enhancements to leave policies and programs to support workforce needs
· Support integration of leave programs during mergers, acquisitions, or organizational changes
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field
· 5+ years of experience managing leave programs in a large, complex organization
· Strong knowledge of federal and state leave laws and compliance requirements
· Experience with leave management systems and third-party administrators
· Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
