Backed by our deep understanding of learning science and how people learn, our products and services are designed for real-life impact. **About the Team** The Research & Development & Thought Leadership team conducts cutting-edge research and develops thought leadership on critical topics in education, learning, and the future of work. Situated within the Chief Strategy Office, the team aims to deliver a multi-year research and thought leadership agenda designed to support Pearson in executing on its long-term strategy. The work of the R&D and Thought Leadership team focuses on three main areas: + **Drive research and thought leadership** : Lead research and thought leadership efforts to position Pearson as a trusted authority in education, learning and work. + **Create and share insights on the future of learning and work** : Create well-researched, evidence-based insights on key topics in education, learning, and work. Share these insights internally and externally through reports, articles, and presentations to help establish Pearson as a trusted expert. + **Use research to sup** **port business growth** : Apply research-based insights to guide product development, influence marketing strategies, and shape policy discussions that create business opportunities and drive customer engagement. The team is hiring a Learning Science Researcher who will contribute to all three areas of work. **What are the responsibilities of the role?** The high-level responsibilities for this role are: + Act as an expert resource in learning science and education, supporting the business by embedding an understanding of how people learn in our product development and our thought leadership. + Conduct, synthesize, and commission research to buildarticles and papers on key topics that position Pearson as an authority on the future of education, learning, and work. + Collaborate with content development partners, including vendors, contractors, and designers, to build externally publishable thought leadership pieces. + Represent Pearson at external research convenings and increase the company's visibility in the research community. + Provide R&D support for product developments with a focus on embedding learning science and design in products. + Support early product development research to test user perceptions of impact and learner value. + Support the business to represent education and learning science research in the context of our products via sales/marketing channels, helping drive growth by engaging a variety of Pearson consumers and stakeholders. **What will it take to do the job well?** Essential criteria include: + Experience conducting primary and secondary research around concepts at the forefront of education, learning, and work (e.g. future of assessment, role of AI in education, lifelong learning, neuroscience of learning) + Experience translating academic research into accessible and actionable insights for diverse audiences + Experience with a variety of research designs and both qualitative and quantitative analysis + Ability to rapidly establish a strong rapport and collaborate with a range of stakeholders + Ability to work quickly in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment on high impact problems + Strong written and verbal communication across a range of audiences + PhD or other doctoral degree preferred, with a focus in one of the following areas: + Learning Science + Cognitive Science/ Cognitive Psychology + Neuroscience + Educational Psychology + Organizational Psychology Desired criteria include: + Experience in applying research findings to inform the design of learning materials and/or learning products and technologies + Experience consulting, advising, or partnering with educational organizations, edtech companies, or government agencies on learning-related initiatives + An understanding of the evolution of the role of AI in learning + A record of research publication in peer reviewed journals, and presentations at professional conferences Please note that this role is advertised in both the UK and USA. **For USA applicants please see below.** **Compensation:** Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location.
