A key supporting role to ensure delivery is aligned with strategy and to optimise the flow of value through the portfolio over the short and longer term. The role holder will work with the Portfolio Management team to establish portfolio flow, balance funding allocation, and employ dynamic forecasting and prioritisation to optimise time to market for a portfolio.
The LPS role is a key part of the management structure of a product portfolio. It facilitates the governance of the portfolio and ensures that the governance is completed according to LPM principles best practice. It is the portfolio subject matter expert (SME) for Lean Portfolio Mgt., and thus ensuring the correct implementation of best practice of governance processes, portfolio ceremonies, the use of tooling and the definition of the portfolio data. The role may lead the implementation of LPM and will monitor and coach on the above topics to ensure full adoption and maintenance of the portfolio mgt. standards. The role owns all of the assurance of the portfolio artefacts, issues and data and drive correction where necessary.
1. Defines and maintains JIRA Portfolio Structure, based on portfolio roadmap from LPM
2. As the portfolio’s LPM SME, ensures portfolio stakeholders correctly apply lean portfolio management methodology and correctly use JIRA:
• Training and coaching of portfolio stakeholders;
• Assurance of RAIDs, governance artefacts and key data points E2E over portfolio flow: analyse data and drive correction, including status report delivery
• Ensures correct execution of portfolio mgt. events (e.g. Portfolio Sync, SI/PI Planning, Demand Review, LPM and delivery daily stand-ups, SOS - scrum of scrums).
• Periodical assessment on overall portfolio delivery KPIs (velocity & efficiency – PowerBI & JIRA)
3. Drives continuous improvement in the application of methodologies and tools to portfolio governance, shares best practice
4. Being the primary delegated authority of LPM when they are not available
5. Will be flexible in completing these tasks for different portfolios and different maturity stages.
• Able to communicate and drive outcomes effectively over multiple seniorities/roles/teams in a large matrix organisation
• Able to constructively challenge and coach
• Deep knowledge the SAFe Framework
• Experience of working in an Agile organisation in a Portfolio mgt. function or Solution Team.
• Able to organise their time over multiple work streams and conflicting priorities
• Self-starter able to work independently and remotely
• Ability to analyse data to see trends and make mitigation recommendations
• Ability to present to senior mgt.
Must have technical /professional qualifications:
• JIRA and Confluence – advanced understanding of tool features
• MS PowerBI – proficiency in developing and modifying visuals and measures
• Knowledge of Agile frameworks, eg SAFe, Scrum, Kanban
