Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Lead Tailings Geotechnical Engineer to serve as the Tailings Market Sector Lead for Canada. In this role, you will plan, promote, and implement the Canada Region practice vision for Tailings and Mine Waste. Reporting to the Water Business Line, the successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, growth, and technical excellence of AECOM’s Tailings and Mine Waste Practice in Canada.

You will support existing clients, develop new client relationships, and collaborate closely with Global and Regional Practice Leaders to advance strategic initiatives. This role also includes coordinating technical services and staff within the Mining practice to foster collaboration across the region.

This position may be based in any of AECOM’s Canadian offices, with a preference for Vancouver or Montréal.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develop and execute strategic initiatives to grow AECOM’s Tailings and Mine Waste Practice in CanadaRecruit, mentor, and develop top technical talent within the practiceFoster technical excellence and professional growth through coaching and leadershipActively participate in AECOM’s Technical Practice GroupBuild and maintain strong relationships with key clients and successfully win new workPlan, direct, and oversee large, complex projects or multiple moderately sized projects with significant risk, complexity, and financial impactResolve complex technical and project-related issuesProvide technical direction and mentorship to project teamsPerform independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designsServe as the primary point of contact for clients and maintain full responsibility for project deliveryAct as Engineer of Record (EOR) on design and design-build projectsLead project teams of 10 or more members, often across multiple business lines, remote locations, and including subcontractorsPlan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering projects, addressing unique or complex challengesDevelop, review, and evaluate project plans on a regular basisProvide expert advice to clients on engineering matters, including compliance with applicable regulations and standardsPartner with clients to develop long-term, sustainable solutionsProvide project leadership in the design, analysis, and construction of dam and tailings infrastructure projects

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline12+ years of progressive experience in the Tailings and Mine Waste sectorPrevious experience serving as Engineer of Record for large tailings facilitiesValid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline20+ years of progressive experience in tailings management, preferably within CanadaHighly collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across AECOM and with global project teamsDemonstrated success in pursuing and winning work in Canada, with a strong reputation in the Canadian mining marketProven experience leading and building multidisciplinary teamsWillingness and capability to take on Project Management responsibilities, including schedule and budget control, client engagement, and proposal developmentAbility to attract and retain key talent within the Canadian mining marketExperience in client service, marketing, and business developmentBilingualism in French and English
