ABOUT THE JOB: Persons in these positions will work 8 hours per day, 11 months per year. Daily working schedule will fluctuate according to productions and other related events and may require working evenings and/or variable hours. Under direction, leads and provides technical support to theatrical operations; assists in maintaining services and arranging staffing for theatrical operations; and performs related work as required.

JOB DUTIES: Works independently or with stage crews to rig, connect, and operate stage lighting, video, and sound systems; constructs scenery; arranges special effects; assists in stage and property layouts; leads, oversees, and assists in training stage employees performing a wide variety of tasks related to proper theatrical set construction, set up, cleaning, repair, operation, modification and storage of sound, lighting, rigging, and staging equipment; oversees and operates a wide variety of professional stage equipment including automated lighting, rigging and scenic staging systems, audio and video equipment, in both the analog and digital networked environment; follows established fire and life safety practices, techniques, and procedures as it relates to productions; leads and participates in all elements of production design and execution; confers with groups regarding the use of the auditorium and assists with technical preparations; resolves issues that may arise with the community and staff during facility usage, as appropriate; maintains a variety of records, including stage crew time worked, as well as equipment set-up, placement, usage, documentation of routine production and facility operation; secures auditorium and other district production sites by locking doors, windows, and gates; moves, arranges, and sets up furniture and equipment for special events, productions, and meetings; may make repairs to sets, scenery and props.

Education and Experience: high school graduation or equivalent; and any combination equivalent to two years of experience equivalent to full-time work in staging live theater productions, including lighting, sound, and theatrical equipment set-up, operation, repair, and storage; and some lead or supervisory experience in staging live theater productions is required. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately.  Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

LICENSE: Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING….

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of theatrical production; theatrical lighting, rigging, video, and sound principles and techniques; theater maintenance and safety operations; computer and computerized network operations in a theatrical setting; basic acoustics, lighting, rigging, and electronics theory; and fire safety regulations and procedures in a theater environment.

Ability to: Assist in developing and maintaining theater schedules; operate and maintain a wide variety of theatrical equipment, including computerized, electrical, hydraulic and manual lighting, sound, video, rigging, and scenery equipment; operate a wide variety of electrical equipment, as well as hand and power tools; troubleshoot equipment problems and perform standard repairs; follow oral and written instructions; interact with individuals with tact and courtesy both in person, on the telephone, and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and the public; lead the work of others in a cooperative and professional manner; exercise initiative and work independently with minimal supervision; assist in training and scheduling work assignments.
