About the role:
Gartner is seeking a talented and passionate Lead Software Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for building the foundational data and services our AI Products and Insights Team. You will closely collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists and Cloud teams to expand the reach and accuracy of our Agentic and Search Solutions.

You are someone who doesn't just write code but understands the "why" behind every architectural decision—from choosing the right storage engine to optimizing search indexing and scaling machine learning solutions.
 

What you’ll do:

Technical Vision: Define and communicate a clear technical vision for the engineering function, ensuring it aligns with organizational goals and scales with the business.Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of engineers with moderate effectiveness, providing the mentorship and technical oversight needed to deliver high-quality web services.Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders across the business to ensure engineering efforts are prioritized and understood.Architecture & Strategy: Drive the design of complex, customer-facing web services using Java or Python, ensuring sound architectural decisions across storage, search, and data processing.Operational Excellence: Oversee the implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines and ML Engineering workflows, ensuring the team delivers reliable, production-ready solutions.Culture & Values: Actively promote core organizational values within the team and across functions, fostering a collaborative and ethical engineering environment.
 

What you’ll need:

Must have:

Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in the IT industry.Core Engineering: Expert-level understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) and SOLID design principles.Backend Mastery: Proven track record and knowledge about REST APIs, API performance / scaling and best practicesData & ML: Practical experience with ETL/ELT processes and rolling out solutions with integrated MLCloud & DevOps: Familiarity with AWS environments and a working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.Storage: Hands-on exposure and solid understanding of different storage engines (SQL and NoSQL, Search Engines).Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the "big picture" and align team deliverables with the business roadmap.Conflict Resolution: Effectively navigating technical disagreements and stakeholder requirements to reach the best outcome for the product.Mentorship: A proven ability to grow the technical and professional skills of mid-level and senior engineers.
