Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Lead Shift Technician to oversee the operation, maintenance, and reliability of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) plant, equipment, and systems. The role involves delivering high-quality Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), providing first-line response to breakdowns, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
As Lead Technician, you will also mentor and support your shift team, delegate tasks, and play a key role in ensuring plant performance and service delivery meet agreed KPIs and SLAs.
Main DutiesPlan and deliver PPM activities to M&E plant and equipment, ensuring engineering standards are maintained.
Provide a prompt and effective response to reactive maintenance issues and service desk requests.
Lead, mentor, and support the shift team to maintain high standards of performance and technical understanding.
Supervise and coordinate specialist subcontractors during site visits, ensuring adherence to RAMS and site procedures.
Carry out site risk assessments, SOPs, and EOPs for self-perform tasks.
Lead the shift handover process, ensuring accurate documentation, plant logs, and system checks.
Act as an HVAP when required, compiling switching schedules, method statements, and risk assessments.
Support commissioning and witnessing of new plant/systems from developers.
Communicate effectively with engineers, subcontractors, and management during incidents or escalations.
Produce clear, detailed technical fault reports for any critical alarms or situations.
Maintain awareness of newly installed plant/systems and review O&M manuals for technical readiness.
Ensure compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and company policies at all times.
Maintain accurate quality assurance records and documentation.
What We're Looking ForPrevious experience as a Lead Technician in a shift-based environment.
Strong technical knowledge and diagnostic skills across M&E services.
Ability to manage, mentor, and delegate within a shift team.
Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload under pressure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both customers and management.
Qualifications/Certifications:
City & Guilds in Building Services (Mechanical/Electrical).
17th/18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
HV or AP certification for HV/LV switching.
Health & Safety certification (IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
HVAC/Air Conditioning accreditation including F-Gas qualification.
Strong working knowledge of: UPS, Diesel Generators, HVAC, Refrigeration, and Plumbing systems.
HV authorised training and certification preferred.
Familiarity with CAFM systems and strong IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Supervisory training (e.g., ILM standard) desirable.
