Lead Power Electronics Engineer

In Eaton, making our work exciting, engaging, meaningful; ensuring safety, health, wellness; and being a model of inclusion & diversity are already embedded in who we are - it’s in our values, part of our vision, and our clearly defined aspirational goals. **This exciting role offers opportunity to:** **What you’ll do:** • Performs design, modeling, simulation, and implementation of power electronics circuits for power conversion and protection • Develops control and protection algorithms for electric motors and power converters • Builds and measures test circuits. Analyzes data to improve/optimize the designs. • Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, cost, size, reliability, and manufacturability • Collaborates with mechanical, thermal, firmware, and testing engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs • Initiates and leads design reviews and technical discussions, including brainstorming • Creates technical reports and presentations **Qualifications:** Basic Qualifications: BS in electrical engineering or equivalent Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development Significant modeling, simulation, and analysis experience with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, and PLECS Significant hands-on experience with power electronics development and testing, especially for medium voltage (MV) applications Broad knowledge of power electronics, including various topologies, power semiconductors, and control schemes. Customer-focused with good relationship-building skills Ability to learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry Strong written communication and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications: Strong knowledge of power semiconductors, power electronics passive components (e.g., high-frequency magnetics, power capacitors, etc.), state-of-the-art cooling techniques Experience with modern converter topologies, specifically medium voltage (MV) multi-level converter topologies Thorough understanding of PCB layout and EMC/EMI design practices, voltage clearance/creepage requirements, insulation, and interconnection techniques Experience with EMI/EMC development, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability considerations (e.g., electronic simulation for DfR and DfM or worst-case analysis) Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Design for Six Sigma certification Good English written and oral ability Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual. Good communication and presentation skills Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment.
