Responsibilities
The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension serves as both a clinician and operational leader for NP/PAs who engage in practice and education. The APP team members serve patient care needs in the inpatient and outpatient setting which includes acute and chronic dialysis therapies. This role integrates advanced clinical practice with team leadership to ensure high-quality, coordinated, and efficient nephrology care.
This position provides direct patient care across the continuum of nephrology services while overseeing the performance, development, scheduling, and operational effectiveness of the NP/PA workforce.
Lead APP responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities of the Lead APP will be consistent with nephrology NP/PA team members.
Nephrology & Hypertension NP/PA hospital-based team members work on a consulting service to provide 24/7 coverage managing chronic kidney disease (CKD), end stage kidney disease (ESKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), hypertension, kidney stones, and acid base & electrolyte disturbances for patients throughout the hospital. The Nephrology & Hypertension NP/PA hospital team works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including nephrologists, fellows, nurses, and others. The inpatient role requires timely assessments, interventions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Patient and family education about recovery and disease process is also a crucial part of the health promotion for the patients.
Nephrology & Hypertension NP/PA outpatient/ambulatory team members provide care for patients with CKD (including glomerular diseases), ESKD, recovering AKI, hypertension, and kidney stones. Individuals with focus on dialysis care round in the outpatient dialysis unit. Additionally, education remains an important mission and NP/PA work with trainees including APP fellows, nephrology fellows, residents and students.
During the selection process you may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. During the OnDemand interview, a question will appear on your screen, and you will have time to consider each question before responding. You will have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question – Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. The complete interview will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member and you will be notified of next steps.
