Lead Mechanical Designer
Eaton’s ES AMER PCS division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Designer. **What you’ll do:** **PRIMARY FUNCTION:** Eaton is seeking a Lead Mechanical Designer for its Advanced Technology team within the Electrical Sector’s “Protection, Control and Solutions” group. The Lead Mechanical Designer will drive the creation of successful mechanical designs of next-generation ultrafast circuit breakers using Pro/Engineer Creo 7.0. Responsibilities will include generating 3D concept models, minimum viable product designs, detailed drawing specification packages and bill of material creation under the guidance of project engineers. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** Create robust and flexible 3D CAD models to support engineering team’s product development efforts. Perform modelling and simulation to compare, evaluate and select concepts for development. Produces design layouts and documentation for the construction and testing of prototype models and evaluates designs for fits, tolerance stack, volume, etc., using CAD tools Design parts for molding, stamping, machining, casting, extrusion, and powder metal using standard materials. Optimize part and assembly designs for performance, manufacturability and cost. Create and revise engineering drawings of parts and assemblies to support manufacturing tooling, fixtures, equipment, and the inspection of components. Participate in print reviews. Control engineering documentation and models using engineering change orders within a product data management system including CAD data vault. Provide CAD-based illustrations for presentations, manufacturing instructions, and product literature. Maintain current knowledge of CAD, design/manufacturing technologies applicable to the product line and cross-train to share knowledge across the team. Apply industry and team standards/best practices to modeling, drawing and data management to support global collaboration. Assist in creating, measuring and evaluating prototypes to identify and resolve design problems Create functional dimension and tolerance schemes with consideration of manufacturing process capability. Contribute to and generates value added intellectual property. **Qualifications:** **Basic Qualifications:** • Associate Degree in a Mechanical Drafting, or related field (Bachelor’s student) • 2 years of experience working in engineering-based drafting/design • 2 years of experience working with 3D CAD software • Computer knowledge: 3D CAD package (Pro/E Creo, SOLIDWORKS, etc.), AutoCAD and MS Office applications. • Bilingual: English/Spanish **Preferred Qualifications:** • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or Industrial Design • 2 or more years of experience working in new product development of industrial products • 2 or more years of experience with Pro/Engineer Creo • Experience with Adobe Illustrator • Experience working with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) • Experience with software to conduct static stress analysis (Ansys) **Position Criteria:** • Solid understanding of 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing best practices • Creative, mechanical problem solver • Must understand requirements of design for manufacture (molding, stamping, casting, and machining, brazing/welding, assembly) • Possess a working knowledge of assembly tolerance stack analysis • Cross-functional teamwork, with good written and verbal communication skills We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for job applicants and employees.
