We are expanding our Atlantic operations and seeking a Principal Java Developer to support the development and evolution of an enterprise Portfolio Risk and Analytics platform. This role is part of a growing initiative within our Investment Risk Technology team, focused on delivering high-performance, scalable solutions that power critical risk insights across multi-asset portfolios.
This is a permanent full-time, on-site role based in Halifax, NS or Moncton, NB, requiring 5 days in office.
• Design and develop scalable, high-performance Java applications supporting portfolio risk computation and analytics.
• Collaborate with quantitative researchers and risk managers to translate models and methodologies into production-ready systems.
• Build and optimize data layers using Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and effective transaction management.
• Manage database versioning and support data structure evolution.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs that integrate with internal systems and provide both real-time and batch risk metrics.
• Optimize data pipelines and computation frameworks to support large-scale risk simulations.
• Ensure system reliability, transparency, and auditability across the risk platform.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and agile ceremonies to support continuous improvement.
• University degree or technical diploma in an IT-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of experience with strong proficiency in Java and distributed system development.
• Strong understanding of multithreading, memory management, and performance tuning.
• Experience working with microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with financial instruments and risk concepts including VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Exposure to matrix computations and developing efficient, high-performance services.
• Prior experience in investment risk, portfolio analytics, or financial modeling.
Nice to Have / Assets:
• Experience delivering technology solutions within capital markets or financial services environments.
• Familiarity with large-scale data processing frameworks.
• Experience in enterprise modernization projects.
