Lead Instrument and Control Engineer
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Lead instrument and control design criteria and reviews of all related engineering deliverables including drawings and diagrams Perform required instrument and control calculations Lead instrument and control Functional Design Specifications (FDS) development and review Review and verify all instrument and control system specifications Provide technical support for procurement related to instrument and control Plan instrument and control activities ensuring they do not impact the project critical path Manage project communication and document control via project management tools such as Aconex Contribute positively to HAZOP/HAZID or similar studies, ensuring correct installation of instrument and control equipment per classification and project stage Review and interpret plans, specifications, material proposals, and construction methods for compliance with contract, national, and international standards Provide technical support and review project management documents throughout the project lifecycle Ensure Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) are performed according to engineering standards or third-party verification Ensure instrument and control equipment installation is supervised by vendors Provide technical coaching and training for junior instrument and control engineers Monitor EPC/EPCM and construction contractors to assure adherence to IFC drawings and contract documents Assist Project Manager with documentation control, reporting, deliverables, and cost analysis for instrument and control items Liaise regularly with other project partners for integrated planning Develop technical and management reports detailing instrument and control activities, highlighting risks and mitigation plans Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Instrument and Control Engineering from a recognized institution Professional Engineer (PE) license or higher preferred Minimum 15 years of experience including at least 5 years focused on capital engineering projects Experience managing large-scale projects in multicultural environments Skills & Competencies
Thorough knowledge of instrument and control engineering practices, economic principles, calculation methods, design details, and international codes and standards Practical understanding of safety and environmental fundamentals and their application Fluent in oral and written English Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills with consistent ability to meet deadlines Proficient in project control tools such as Primavera, MS Project, and MS Office Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers
Technical Skills
Proficiency in instrument and control design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, and SKM Power Tools Expertise in power system analysis including load flow, short circuit, and arc flash studies Knowledge of instrument and control equipment specifications and selection, including transformers, switchgear, and protective relays Experience with renewable energy systems such as solar and wind power Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its application in instrument and control engineering Understanding of cybersecurity principles related to industrial control systems Ability to perform detailed instrument and control calculations and simulations Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting instrument and control systems
