The Role

Computer Operators at Kyndryl are key in helping revolutionize the way we operate complex computer systems. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, supervise and control intricate networks and applications, and operate distributed systems in a multi-vendor environment.  


As a Computer Operator you will be on the technical frontline – performing batch operations as per service agreements, analyzing first-level issues across systems, and resolving/routing issues as appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to develop support system management processes specific to customer requirements, ensuring that we provide the highest level of service to our customers.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Required 13 yrs Experience in Mainframe Batch & Console Operations

Provide round-the-clock support for mainframe systems.

Monitor user and system jobs running across mainframe LPARs.

Respond promptly to system console messages.

Manage HMC processes for IPL and Standalone dumps.

Perform start-up and shutdown of subsystems, CICS regions, and recycle started tasks as required.

Conduct spool maintenance to ensure system efficiency.

Create and close tickets based on user requests.

Escalate issues to appropriate support groups and technical teams.

Execute MVS and JES2 commands for various jobs and tasks.

Ensure uninterrupted 24x7 system connectivity for the user community.

Monitor SYSLOG activities to identify and resolve error messages.

Check console buffer shortages, contentions, and perform regular health checks.

Proficient in performing z/OS IPL (both manual and automated).

Strong expertise in disaster recovery activities and time change operations (fall and spring).

Experienced in using the OPC tool with thorough knowledge of OPC panels and OPC Operations concepts of databases, Long term plan , Current plan, calendars, ETT.

Should be proficient in tools - BMC Impact Explorer, BMC MainView, HMC, Omegamon, CAMS (CICS Automation and Monitoring System), ServiceNow, Smart IS, CMOD, and Beta92.

Manage production operating system resources, dataset contention, Job Enqueues, CPU utilization, and long-running jobs.

Monitor scheduled batch jobs and batch cycles to ensure smootexecution.

Adhere to SLA checklists and ensure timely completion of SLA-bound jobs.

Handle ad hoc requests such as submitting special runs, adding applications, setting up job dependencies, cancelling, holding, releasing, bypassing JCL overrides (executing jobs from alternate libraries), and resource resets.

Possess strong knowledge of JCL, CICS, JES, DB2, and MVS concepts.

Provide first-level support by analyzing job abends and identifying root causes of failures.



Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or other related fields

Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including professional email and phone etiquette, and the ability to manage multiple bridge calls.

Drive issue resolution by making critical decisions that may impact multiple client processes.

Maintain peak system performance and ensure full operational capacity.

Implement new or improved work procedures where appropriate, exercising sound judgment to make client-impacting adjustments.

Recognize abnormal processing conditions and respond with appropriate corrective actions.

Follow escalation procedures to resolve errors promptly and effectively.

Propose process improvement ideas and automation initiatives to minimize manual tasks and optimize efficiency.
