Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Operations, this position encompasses a wide variety of duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. This is a working position and will be required to work in the regular daily tasks when not actively assisting the Building Operations Supervisor. They will be responsible for safe and efficient operation of the Ice arena, Refrigeration Plant, Pool mechanical Equipment and Boiler room. This position requires teamwork, flexibility, organizational skills and safety awareness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility refrigeration plant equipment and required inspectionsChief Plant OperatorIn depth knowledge of Building Management SystemsDeals directly with contractors on siteUses CityWorks and creates work orders for contractors when requiredDay to Day operations when Supervisor is out of buildingPerform work of a Plant Operator 2 ( 1Ticket) during the ice seasonPerform designated maintenance and operational inspections of refrigeration equipmentComplete appropriate plant log sheets and the physical plant daily log bookEnsure refrigeration plant, ammonia detection alarm systems are on in the remote monitor modeRecord any machinery malfunctions, changes in operation conditions, maintenance performed on equipment or machinery in the daily log bookDirect and Participate in on site efforts of work crews ensuring regular scheduled ice and pool maintenance occursAssist with work scheduling, manpower and assignment planning, material estimating and ordering, routine record keeping, reports, timesheets and ordering of supplies and materialsMaintain and safely operate tools and equipmentPerform ice maintenance, including installation, resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machineMaintain water chemistry balance in indoor poolsMaintain pool equipment including pumps, filters, heaters and feedersSweep, backwash and vacuum poolsCleaning of entire arena including washrooms, dressing rooms, dasher boards, etc.Security of equipment in the arena and the building itselfPerform general repairs to complex, arena equipment including goal nets and facility equipmentSecurity of equipment in the complexGeneral repairs to complex and facility equipmentInspect and maintain boardsMaintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arenaOther related assigned duties including those of Utility WorkersQUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:Grade 12 or equivalentA valid NS Department of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration License RequiredMust hold a valid Certified Pool/ Spa Operator course (or willing to obtain in the first 6 months)Minimum 2 years Proven experience within arena, pool and building environments in a system maintenance capacity which would carry out general repairs to the facility and equipmentWorking knowledge of Pool maintenance and filtration systemsValid NS Class 5 Driver’s LicenseValid WHMIS, Emergency First Aid, CPR Accreditation or willingness to obtainExperience with ice maintenance which includes installation, ice resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machineCommercial Pool experience would be an assetTechnical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Staff maintains and adheres to all applicable Government Regulations and Acts relating to the operation of the Sackville Sports Stadium.Must have annual training and fit testing for self contained breathing apparatus, as requiredExperience operating ice resurfacing equipmentKnowledge of required safety procedures and work practicesMust have a good attendance and work recordMust have excellent customer service skillsMust be able to handle stressful situationsMust have ability to work independently and as a member of a teamMust have ability to work safely and report any workplace hazardsMust have ability and skills to effectively interact with the general public and internal clientsMust ensure staff are properly trained on the use and safety elements of all equipment/processesSecurity Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
