**Job Description:**
CDM Smith is seeking a Lead Engineering Inspector in anticipation of a future project for the US Government in Japan. Given the nature of the project’s Flexible Work requirements, our staff must quickly assimilate and develop an understanding of client’s products, services needed, and goals.
The position for Lead Engineering Inspector will be onsite in or near Tokyo, Japan, located at a US Government military installation. The Lead Engineering Inspector will oversee inspection of the client’s large construction projects. This work will be conducted onsite at an US military installation, ensuring all infrastructure construction adheres to project contract documents, drawings, and specifications, US military standards, codes, and safety regulations, while coordinating with various stakeholders to maintain operational efficiency. Communicate effectively with professionals from a variety of functional backgrounds. Additionally, the Lead Engineering Inspector will elevate any inspection concerns to the CDM Smith project manager and/or onsite manager for our construction phase services related to the client’s construction project. Work will be performed independently under limited supervision.
The project is for title II construction services of waterlines including iron pipes, hydrant connectors, hydrants, as well as associated valves and caps.
Job Duties:
• Coordinate inspection activities and perform on-site surveillance and inspection of the construction work in progress and to ascertain that the work is properly executed and completed in conformance with the contract drawings and specifications.
• Coordinate with and provide project updates to the CDM Smith project manager and/or onsite manager, client points of contact for the project’s period of construction.
• Oversee on-site surveillance and inspection of the construction work in progress.
• Applies the knowledge of engineering laws, codes and principles.
• Inspect construction to ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
• Monitors progress and prepares/creates/compiles inspection reports and/or project status reports.
• Complies with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc. and delivers technical files and other technical documentation as required.
• Develops, trains, and educates junior inspectors.
• Performs other duties as required.

**Minimum Qualifications:**
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience.
Domestic travel is required. Overseas travel is also possible.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
• Three years of DOD construction management or equal inspection project experience required.
• Experience working in Japan.
• Bi-lingual, Fluent in written and verbal Japanese and English.
• Experience on the project type described in the attachment.
• NAVFAC/USACE QC Management Course within last 7 years or able to obtain it.
