Introduction to the Role:

We are currently seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer who will be responsible for process automation design and software development related to Metso BMH Engineering for product development and customer project delivery.

 

What you'll do:

Lead engineering design and development, including preparation of design and development specifications. Develop PLC and advanced process control (APC) applications, HMI, and SCADA systems. Design machine process architecture and control system architecture. Develop and maintain Metso’s standard product portfolio according to the product roadmap and create tailored solutions for customers. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of Control Systems Engineers. Oversee the development and implementation of industrial control system standards, best practices, and regulatory compliance. Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, and clients, to deliver successful projects. Play an integral role in the review and design process, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions, and contribute to the growth of business opportunities through innovative control system strategies.

 

Who you are:

Essential Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related Engineering field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in control system engineering, preferably in bulk material handling or mineral processing industries. Strong leadership and project management capabilities with experience mentoring junior engineers. Extensive knowledge of industrial process control design, network architecture, and MES/ERP integrations. Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA, and APC systems. Experience in Rockwell and Siemens PLC development. Expertise in AVEVA (Citect) SCADA development. Hands-on experience with industrial fieldbus protocols and industrial instrumentation. Knowledge of Siemens and Rockwell variable speed drives design and commissioning. Proven experience with control system commissioning and factory acceptance testing. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Desirable Experience

SQL development for industrial data integration. Experience with ABB, and Schneider PLC platforms. SCADA development in InTouch, Cimplicity, and FactoryTalk View. Designing process automation solutions for OEM equipment. Functional Safety (TUV certification preferred). ABB variable speed drive design and commissioning. Experience with plant historians and databases. Membership or eligibility for Engineers Australia.
